At the same time, in the big picture, the welfare state is destroying societal values, undercutting incentives for work and disconnecting the economic machine that drives value from the government machine that excises it and doles it out. If anyone wants to know why bit by bit, piece by piece, standards of living and median incomes are declining all you have to do is look into the mirror, gaze at yourself and then consider the destructive dependency cycle of the give-away government that you elect. We have met the enemy and it really is us.

So I Checked. We Are Winners!
I came across one of those on-line calculators for the Obamacare subsidy. I couldn't help it. I checked. Sure enough it looks like my family would qualify for about a $3,000 subsidy if we were to go the healthcare insurance exchange route. Given our incredibly low tax rates, that would make us officially part of Romney's 47 percent -- bribed into leftist loyalty.
The reality is that by my standards we live pretty high on the hog. We don't have an economic care in the world. We have worked hard, saved hard and invested hard. We have earned every penny. We don't want any handouts. We don't need any handouts. Whatever benefits we receive are a direct result of having worked for decades. We are happy to give to good causes and do so.
