Why Obama's Second Term Is Unraveling

This President, any President, in order to succeed has to get three critical hires right -- his Chief of Staff (who manages the White House and the Presidency), the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (who manages the interface of the Executive Branch with the sprawling federal bureaucracy) and the National Security Advisor (who manages the interface with military, intelligence and diplomatic functions).  Dear President's term is doomed to fail, again and again, because he has blown all three hires, rather intentionally picking people because of their personal loyalty, simpatico views and personalities, not because of their competence and experience.

Chief of Staff Denis McDonough is a foreign policy wonk. Manager of the Presidency and White House?  Please.

Sylvia Mathews Burwell is Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Previously, she was President of the Wal-Mart Foundation, in charge of giving out money to charities on behalf of the retail giant. A dispenser of gifts and favors managing the bureaucracy and controlling budgets on behalf of the President? Please.
